In 2022, Sounds-Write got in touch with a brief to illustrate 20 children's books (ages 7-8) with 8 illustrations each. The illustrations needed to be made to pair with their stories which aimed to help teach children to read and write.
Below I have selected a few illustrations from 5 of these books to showcase. For the whole book series, I developed characters and scenes to match the stories written. I kept the illustration style and brushes I used in Procreate consistent throughout, and had fun choosing a unique colour palette for each book that suited the individual story. I also added in some small Easter Eggs that linked the stories. For example, in the "Larry's Laboratory" story you can see one of the other book's illustrations playing out in the bottom right-hand screen.

Larry's Laboratory
A story about a girl's mad Scientist uncle, Larry, who accidentally shrinks himself with a shrink ray. The girl has to make the antidote and get him back to normal-size.

The Castaway
Bart falls off a sailboat at night and has to learn to survive by himself for a day on a deserted island before he gets rescued.

The Missing Biscuits
Dylan and Lily's Grandma's biscuits go missing and they argue about where the biscuits are until they discover the dog has taken them.

The Bike Ride
Ravi has a secret, it's that he can fly! He uses this ability to escape some bullies on a bike chase.

The Ship's Cook
A ship's cook tells a story about stealing treasure from and escaping the Queen.
